Golden Rice

Golden Rice was developed by Peter Beyer (Freiburg University) and Ingo Potrykus (ETH Zürich). This rice variety accumulates beta-carotene, commonly known as provitamin A, in the grain. Because this essential vitamin is not available in sufficient amounts for large parts of the world's population considerable economic damage and health problems are the results. Golden Rice fights this problem.
